The Good Neighbor (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
The Good Neighbor (2016) Review Right of the bat, this movie is intense and tense. It's like a combination between Rear Window and Paranormal Activity. Throw in some Disturbia as well. It's suspenseful, it's captivating and an intelligent thrill ride when you find out what really happens when you cross the line and what started as a joke becomes something serious. The story is good bit they didn't handle it very well and I have a few concerns with the flashbacks. We don't really need those in this movie. James Caan gives an unsettling and terrifying performance. The end is very good and with a surprising twist and the title of the movie fits perfect with James Caan's character. Not everyone will enjoy it but is worth a watch. 6.5/10

The Neighbor (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
The Neighbor (2016) Review This movie is bad. It starts off slow but apart from some tense scenes, it does not shift into another gear. Is decently acted and decently made but, at the same time, it's a boring movie. There is not a lot to watch, not enough action to get you pumped up and is not a great thriller. I recommend you see Rear Window (the classic and the Christopher Reeve remake) or, if you want something a bit newer I suggest Disturbia. Not recommended you see this one! 5/10

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) Movie Review

Imagine
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) Review Here is another holiday classic for you. It's a very fun and heartfelt movie, with great jokes, great humor, good story and an exceptional chemistry between Steve Martin and the late John Candy. John Hughes delivers us another holiday miracle and another classic tale alongside Uncle Buck, the first two Home Alone's , National Lampoon's Vacation, 16 Candles, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club and the wonderful Ferris Bueller's Day Off. You can't stop laughing when you see this movie (look for the rental car scene with Steve Martin, is a delight). It has a Christmas feel to it as well so it is a perfect movie to watch with your family on holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas alike. Very recommended! 9/10

Frozen (2013) Movie Review

Imagine
Frozen (2013) Review Disney returns to it's classic roots since The Lion King (very recommended) with this extraordinary animation that became a worldwide phenomenon. It's beautifully animated, has very catchy songs (Let it Go anyone), is nicely written and a very wonderful story about family and what true love really means. The voice acting is excellent, with front runners Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell singing without a false note. I admit, it's a classic Disney tale but they handle it pretty damn good, from my part. It has wit, humor, very good music, characters that you can connect to, astonishing animation and effects topped with a wonderful, heartfelt story. It is worth watching every year especially around the holiday season. It is a worthy entrance in the Disney canon alongside classics and newer animations like Tangled, Wreck-it Ralph and this year's Zootopia. P.S.- check out Frozen Fever as well. Is a nice addition until the second one comes out. If it eve

Bad Santa 2 (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Bad Santa 2 (2016) Review So, this is a comedy sequel no one asked for. Most of the times sequels don't work, with a few exceptions like Terminator 2, Aliens and Godfather Part 2 but with comedy sequels is another story: almost all the time they don't work like Dumb and Dumber To and Zoolander 2. And no one asked for those movies just like this one. The first one was funny, crazy and had a nice ending. This one is exactly the same, with the same crude and rude humor, some scenes that are similar to other scenes in the first one and less heart. Don't make no mistake, it's funny and worth a watch but is to little to late. I liked the first one but the second one does not have that christmassy feel. On the plus side the performances are still great, with Billy Bob doing, yet again, a fine job and the extraordinary Kathy Bates doing a bang on job as well. But, overall, the movie is not a fresh one. Bad Santa 2, you're gonna get some coal in your stockings. 6.5/10

Bad Santa (2003) Movie Review

Imagine
Bad Santa (2003) Review Bad Santa 2 is coming up and I revisited the first one which I recommend you should see it if you haven't already saw it. It's a very good black comedy, with some rude and offensive humor that does the trick in every scene. Although it is a Christmas movie it's definitely not for kids. Great performances from all of the cast with the lead Billy Bob Thornton masterfully embodied the drunken and all out despicable Santa. It's hilarious, it's crazy, it's offensive and it has a surprising feel good ending. If there is a Christmas hater among you this is the movie for them. Definitely recommended to see on every Christmas! There are some bits that I don't agree upon but there just crumbs. Rest of the turkey is delicious.9/10

The Night Before (2015) Movie Review

Imagine
The Night Before (2015) Review We start the Christmas countdown with this "gem" of a movie from last year. Let me say that this movie is hilarious from start to finish. It's starts off a bit slow and a bit sad but from there it's all one big crazy journey to find the ultimate Christmas party. It's got humor, very R rated humor, crazy action and extra funny scenes. The performances are great, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anthony Mackie and Seth Rogen, especially Seth Rogen. To see this guy having a drug induced journey is delightful and fucking hilarious. The church scene is one of the best scenes in the movie. It deserves a spot on the funny Christmas comedies list. It's not as consisting like the classic Christmas comedies but it definitely deserves a revisit on every Christmas. It's an enjoyable mayhem, a crazy Christmas movie and a good tale about growing up. 8/10

The Monster Squad (1987) Movie Review

Imagine
The Monster Squad (1987) Review This movie is basically "Goonies" vs. Universal Studios's monsters. It's quite a funny movie but that's all that is. The special effects are, despite the 80's, not very bad but satisfying, for me at least. Since it came out the movie gained a cult following which is a good thing, it shows us that this movie has promise, and it definitely does. It's kid fun and it's a very good and scary movie to introduce your kid to this genre of monster movies. Worth watching on Halloween. 6.5/10

Rise of the Guardians (2012) Movie Review

Imagine
Rise of the Guardians (2012) Review I simply love this movie. The blend of humor, action sprinkled with heartfelt emotions is wonderful. We have some dark moments as well but it comes in the mix quite well. We have a great voice cast with Alec Baldwin, Isla Fisher, Hugh Jackman, Chris Pine and Jude Law, amazing special and visual effects and the original fight between good and evil. I admit, the story is not that good but the movie is fun, entertaining and nicely paced. It's a childhood dream to watch how this legends unite to form a sort of Avengers team for the elementary school kids. Beautifully animated and a nice portion of fun.8.5/10

Snowden (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Snowden (2016) Review Director Oliver Stone goes from war type movies to political/biography movie with this based on true events "tale". The movie tackles a problem that exists for a long time and still existing, that being "the government watches you at every step" and it does so in a more secure and safe way. Unfortunately this takes a bit of the impact that a story like this will have, as though the director thought the NSA or the CIA will come knocking. We have a brilliant performance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the other actors do a pretty good job as well. Some scenes have some intensity, like the rubix cube scene, but that's the only one. The story was told in the best possible way but, like I said, they played it safe. The ending is special and very well done, but no spoilers. The movie is good not great and definitely not one of Oliver Stone's best.7.5/10

Monsters (2010) Movie Review

Imagine
Monsters (2010) Review This movie is great. Director Gareth Edwards showed me that you don't need expensive special effects to do a good monster movie. It's got tension, emotion, drama and a strong political message. You are invested in the story and in the characters from start to finish. Gareth Edward used that exact method in the Godzilla reboot from 2014 and the the two movies share a few similarities. You are going to have to watch this two movies to find them out and I cannot recommend each of this two movies enough. It has an intriguing premise but it does not quite leave to up to it but it blends excellent the alien invasion with the political and relationships drama. It's a simple, unique and powerful movie. Gareth Edwards should direct Pacific Rim 2 or at least Godzilla vs. King Kong. Highly recommend this movie and Godzilla (2014) to!9/10

Pete's Dragon (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Pete's Dragon (2016) Review Disney continues it's winning streak of successful live-action adaptations alongside Cinderella and The Jungle Book. In this case the original movie was not a good experience both visual and emotional plus it didn't have any entertainment whatsoever. Simply put it was boring and the way they created the dragon was just plane bad. I understand the technology was not what is today but you can do better than putting a cartoon in a live-action movie. Mary Poppins came out in '64 and the penguins in that famous scene war better that the dragon in the '77 original. Enough of that, let's discuss this movie. The visuals are, understandably, a lot more better than the original, we have some good scenes that contain both tension and emotion. The story is not a new one because we had some other movies with the same story: animal befriends a boy/human, other humans find out and they attack and try to capture the creature, it's pacing is

War Dogs (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
War Dogs (2016) Review This movie has quite a few similarities with "Lord of War", the 2005 movie with Nicolas Cage and Jared Leto but this one is based on actual events and I have a problem with that. Telling me that this is based on actual events makes me a bit not invested in the story. It's just, it doesn't seem that believable that two 20 something guys could pull of a stunt like that. If you watch the movie you'll know what I mean. As far as acting no concern there because both Miles Teller and Jonah Hill deliver funny, emotional and lighthearted performances. We have a good director, Todd Phillips, from the "Old School" and Hangover trilogy fame and Bradley Cooper is a nice addition to the cast and the story. The movie is fun, a bit predictable at some points, it's got a good moral lesson, a bit forced and it tries very hard to be a well made copy of the "Lord of War" movie and, unfortunately, it fails in doing so. It's a watc

Sully (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Sully (2016) Review Director Clint Eastwood gambles again in the based on true events genre after he gave us the riveting American Sniper and does a very good job with the cast and the portrayal of the Miracle on the Hudson. We have another strong and possible Oscar worthy performance from Tom Hanks with the additional cast giving their own riveting performances. The runtime is perfect because if the movie was even a bit longer it would have not been this good, it would have been a bit boring. Great directing from mister Eastwood, putting his own vision of this incredible true story on the screen. A good movie that shows us what it really feels like to be a real life hero and all the good, the bad and the ugly of doing the right thing. 9/10

Hell or High Water (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Hell or High Water (2016) Review From beginning to end, this movie is a modern combination between a heist movie and a western and it works very good. It shows you that you don't need a hole lot of shutting and killing to make a good heist/western movie. It has very good performances from all of the cast, even mister Chris Pine, which gives a new range of his acting skills. It's a simple movie with great cinematography, good action and some funny bits as well. It's not everyone's cup of tea but if get a chance to watch it, then I strongly recommend you do so! 9.5/10

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) Review In 2011 we witnessed the finale of an amazing franchise that was Harry Potter. Now, after 5 years, J.K.Rowling invites us to return the magical world with this new film which will set another, based on this movie, amazing franchise. The movie is a step in the right direction because it is funny, like hilarious, has a more family friendly tone, great effects and the Potter fans will definitely spot the links with the Potter movies and books. We have a new character, Newt Scamander, played very good by Eddie Redmayne, author of the same book that Harry will study in his first year at Hogwarts. There are two stories in this movie: first of all we have Newt arriving in New York with a case of magical creatures, some of them escape and he teams up with a muggle, played by the funny Dan Fogler and he is the catalyst of almost all of the humor and funny moments in this movie, and two witches trying to capture the creatures; on the oth

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011) Movie Review

Imagine
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011) Review This movie is just the opposite of the part 1. In the first part we had almost no action at all, but in this one we got action from start to finish. It moves in a fast pace, briefly stopping to present an emotional scene, and then it accelerates again in the same manner. It's visuals are simply mesmerizing, the acting is top notch, the stakes are higher than ever and it's a very thrilling and emotional ride. It's a very sad moment to see this amazing series come to a close but it is satisfying to see that every character has a defining moment. It has been a tremendous journey from beginning to end and we could not have got a better conclusion to the series than this. A wonderful ending to an unique franchise. 10/10

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010) Movie Review

Imagine
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010) Review So, I am going to say this from the get go is that I'm not particularly on board with splitting the last movie of a series into two, because what this movie gives us is a glimpse of what's to come. It's a prelude to get us ready and emotionally invested for the final confrontation between good and evil, the final battle between Hogwarts and the Death Eaters and between Harry and Voldemort. Just like Breaking Dawn was for the Twilight series and Mockingjay was for The Hunger Games franchise. With that said, the penultimate movie of the Potter series is extraordinary filmed and emotionally satisfying. There are some times when the movie moves in a very slow pace but is still engaging to watch. It has a mix of human drama sprinkled alongside with some great visuals and top with some well created tension. It doesn't have lots of action but it compensates with exposition and setup that will prepare you for the

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) Movie Review

Imagine
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) Review Okay, with this movie you get, besides fantasy, 3 more movie genres: comedy, romance and horror. It has a bit more humor than the others, which is not all bad, but it also has an exaggerated amount of romance which makes it a bit cheesy. So, leaving the romance part behind, I can say that this installment is dark, thrilling and, like I've mentioned before, funny with stunning visuals and enough emotions to satisfy even the most emotional fans. On the negative side of the coin, this is the weakest link in the Potter series because it gives you the feeling that it concentrates too much on the relationships between the characters and on their emotions and feelings than on the actual story. It gives you the feeling (I know that I said this before) of a teen movie drama and that is not great from a Potter movie. It's still a worthwhile watch but the second half is a bit harder to digest. 7.95/10

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) Movie Review

Imagine
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) Review It's not an easy fee to encapsulate the longest HP book into the shortest of the HP movies but new director David Yates, which will direct the remaining HP movies and the new Fantastic Beasts movies, succeeds on making exactly that, bringing to the screen a much more entertaining and action-packed movie. We are introduced to the ever despicable Dolores Umbridge, played excellent by british actress Imelda Staunton. It's a faithful adaptation but it skips or changes particular scenes however keeping the tone and the story. We have great action, interesting characters, stunning visuals and the movie brings out the more dark and mature elements of the story. The battle at the end of the movie is very well done, foreshadowing a battle that will be more grandiose. A great movie that I think it's a bit underrated than the others. 8/10

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) Movie Review

Imagine
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) Review So the fourth movie in the Potter series is my personal favorite. The main characters are maturing, the special effects are more vibrant, the story is much darker and we are introduced the Voldemort, with an excellent and a bit chilling performance from Ralph Fiennes. We have a satisfying beginning with the World Cup and the assault of the Death Eaters but from then on is the story moves in an accelerate pace. It has a darker tone, is more complex, more mature, with great cast, new director(Mike Newell), more depth, good visuals and it's definitely more entertaining than the first three. The characters are maturing, going thru the usual teen years problems like love, jealousy, which girl I'm going to ask for prom or how I'm going to survive a fiery breathing dragon. A great film with loads of twists and turns. There is a lot to see and to enjoy in this movie. 9.5/10

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) Movie Review

Imagine
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban(2004) Review This third outing of the Potter series is much darker and grittier than the first two and this is going to be the direction in which future Potter movies will go and it is a recipe for success. With a new director at the helm, Alfonso Cuaron, this movie amps up the style and the story. Most of the childish innocence from the first two movies is almost gone in this one which compensates with more teen angst, jokes, fear and action. We are introduced to new characters like professor Lupin, Sirius Black  and new creatures like the friendly but deadly Buckbeak and the frighting dementors, which are nicely created. It gives you a more mature feeling and prepares you for the upcoming surprises of the follow up movies. And come on, who doesn't like time travel? It does have some plot holes, here and there, but giving that is a more complex plot I can give them a pas. The combination between murder, lies and alternate time lines

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) Movie Review

Imagine
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) Review So this is the review of the second movie from the Potter series. This one, although still focused on younger audiences, has a more lively pace and it shows us that beginning of a darker and a more sinister style that will continue with the other movies. It's a great sequel, an improvement of the first one with a story that is more interesting and a bit grim. It has humor, action, great cast as well, good effects for the time and a mystery that will keep you invested in the movie. Chris Columbus did an excellent job with this one, going from family friendly in the first one to a more darker tone in the second one, depicting the magical world with great fashion. A remarkable film that transfers the beauty of this universe from book to screen. 8.5/10

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone (2001) Movie Review

Imagine
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone (2001) Review In honor of the new beginning of a new franchise in the Harry Potter universe with Fantastic Beasts (review coming next weekend) I am watching, again, all 8 of the Harry Potter movies beginning with, of course, the first one. Let me say that after 15 years this movie still holds up, if you are a true Potter fan like me. For those who are not fans of the Potter series this movie is going to be a bit boring at times but I strongly recommend that all of the people should see this movie, new comers and fans alike. This it's directed to a much younger audience but it is fun movie to watch for adults too because it will make feel like a child again and for me it's like relieving a piece of my childhood. It's an amazing movie, beautifully executed, very true to the source material, with great cast both young and old and, great director and a soundtrack that is very beautiful and very recognizable. Of

Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) Review Laika has done it again. Yet another great animation from the company that brought us only the good stuff like Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls. It has great visuals, memorable music and a very good message. The story is a bit predictable but the animation is wonderful. It's emotional, funny and witty. The voice cast is excellent from Charlize Theron and Matthew Mcconaughey to Ralph Fiennes and Rooney Mara. Is a mix between extraordinary animation and a story from wich people of all ages must learn. A must watch and maybe it can be a very serious Oscar contender. 9.5/10

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) Review Let me say it from the start, it's not one of Tim Burton's finest but is up there. Is better than Alice in Wonderland that's for sure. It has visual flare, although Tim Burton put more accent on visuals than story, the costumes are great and the set design is beautiful. It does have that Tim Burton style but not entirely. The actors in this movie are quite young but they delivered solid performances alongside the gorgeous Eva Green. Another issue with the movie is that the titular character is not present enough and I would have liked to see more of Miss Peregrine because she is an interesting character. This movie is basically Tim Burton's vision of an X-Men movie. Good but not great. 7/10

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Ouija:Origin of Evil (2016) Review So this movie is a prequel for the Ouija movie in 2014 and it's a bit of an improvement from the first one. It feels like a 60's movie and it was filmed like a 60's movie to make it more believable and it works. It's tense, very well made and it has a very good story. It's a bit predictable at times and falls in the typical horror movie cliches. The scary factor is more present in this one and the little girl is and eerie presence. It answers some questions from the first movie and you can see that it has connections with the first one. Everything that was wrong with the first one, this one makes up for all that wrong with great characters and genuine scares.

Ouija (2014) Movie Review

Imagine
Ouija (2014) Review There is not a lot to say about this movie. It's slow, not very entertaining and not that scary. It relies to heavy on cheap jump scares and lacks creativity wich makes it unremarkable. It does have a piece of an inventive plot but I don't think they found it in this movie. Not impressed, not scared and simply disappointed. Please avoid this movie!

Hands of Stone (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Hands of Stone (2016) Review This movie has some great moments but with a very formulaic script it becomes the most predictable boxing movie ever despite the good performances of Robert de Niro and Edgar Ramirez. Even Usher Raymond gave a believable performance. The first half is good but when we get to the second half it's downhill from there. The movie gets bogged down with every boxing movie cliche that exists. It has potential to be a great movie but this is not it.

Warrior (2011) Movie Review

Imagine
Warrior (2011) Review A movie that is very dramatical and packs one hell of an emotional punch (pun intended). It's a very well made movie filled with fantastic acting, great directing, character development and the way the story gets unfolded is flawless. Is very fun to watch, especially for the MMA fans. The fights look believable and real and you can feel every emotion that every character of the movie is going thru. A very emotional film and I can safely say that this could be the Rocky of out generation.

Doctor Strange (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Doctor Strange (2016) Review First of all, congratulations Marvel Studios for the new logo. It encapsulates all that is good about the MCU and it's very colorful. Second of all, this new entry in the MCU is a great origin story, very different from other origin stories Marvel has done with other movies, and it works very good. Unfortunately the humor is a bit much, a bit exagerated from other Marvel films but this is the only bad thing about this movie. Also the story is a bit unoriginal and it very much resembles the Matrix movie. The visuals are amazing, Scott Derikson undoubtedly took inspiration from Christopher Nolan's Inception, the score is impressive and the action is awesome. The love interest is pointless but overall a great movie experience. Benedict Cumberbatch nails the role and I just cannot wait to see him come back in Thor:Ragnarok. Very recommended! P.S.- stay for the after credits scenes, they are 2 of them.

V for Vendetta (2005) Movie Review

Imagine
V for Vendetta (2005) Review Great movie, with very good performances from Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving. A bit dramatic at some points but compensates with great action set pieces, great storyline and fantastic discussion points. And it's based on a comic book in a time when comic book movies didn't have the success they have today and it's a very faithful adaptation. Recomended to see on every november the 5th.

Snatch (2000) Movie Review

Imagine
Snatch (2000) Review Another great movie from Guy Ritchie, in the spirit of his other movie Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (review already uploaded). Another great collaboration with Jason Statham, Vinnie Jones and Jason Flemyng with very good performances from new comers Benicio del Toro and Brad Pitt. With plenty of cool characters and very hilarious scenes, although the movie is driven almost by dialogue, it's still worth watching. It has an amazing story, fenomenal characters, great british humor and very unpredictable. Recomended!!

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1999) Movie Review

Imagine
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1999) Review From witty lines and a killer soundtrack, this movie is british cinematography at it's best. I will say this about this movie: it's a bit crowded and it will require multiple viewings to fully understand the plot but it will be worth the time. A bit predictable at times but worth watching. It's a great and very stylish crime comedy and on of the best british films of the 90's.

Captain Fantastic (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Captain Fantastic (2016) Review First of all, this is not a comic book movie adaptation. Second of all this is an excellent and emotional movie, sprinkled with some humor here and there. The cinematography is beautiful, the directing is perfect and the acting is top notch. It's a movie that is both heartfelt and down to earth. A near perfect experience about how it is to be a family. A wonderful and highly intelligent family drama.

Satanic (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Satanic (2016) Review If you're looking to be entertained, it'll probably do the trick (despite that fact the plot begins literally 40 minutes in the 80 minute run time), but if you're trying to find a good horror movie, skip this because... you will be very disappointed. And t he end could have been better.
