Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban(2004) Review

This third outing of the Potter series is much darker and grittier than the first two and this is going to be the direction in which future Potter movies will go and it is a recipe for success. With a new director at the helm, Alfonso Cuaron, this movie amps up the style and the story. Most of the childish innocence from the first two movies is almost gone in this one which compensates with more teen angst, jokes, fear and action. We are introduced to new characters like professor Lupin, Sirius Black  and new creatures like the friendly but deadly Buckbeak and the frighting dementors, which are nicely created. It gives you a more mature feeling and prepares you for the upcoming surprises of the follow up movies. And come on, who doesn't like time travel? It does have some plot holes, here and there, but giving that is a more complex plot I can give them a pas. The combination between murder, lies and alternate time lines makes this one, one of the best in the series. 9.5/10
