No Escape Room (2018) Review

Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews #100%, the place where you can be nerdy about movies! This is a review that was not planned but I just saw this movie and because there is another ''Escape Room'' movie that came out, I haven't seen it yet, I thought that, until I see that one, I will watch another movie about escape rooms. Plus, I just love escape rooms. Another plus, it's some paranormal activity and I am nuts for that type of thing.

First of all, a bit of a synopsis for you lot:

When an escape room attraction turns from a fun bonding activity to a dangerous paranormal experience, a father and daughter must flee from an angry spirit.

A bit short but, in summary, that is the whole movie. And I was surprised because I liked a part of this movie and rest of its is just a mess but it's a TV horror movie, with a low budget and unknown actors so I am going to give it a bit of a pass. The movie, as a whole, is just bad. It's full of cliches, which makes it very predictable, it relies, for the most part, on cheap jump scares, the story does not make sense, it's full of questions that remain unanswered making the whole story, plus the ending, very confusing and without logic. Characters are vaguely introduced, with no backstory or exposition whatsoever, making you careless about what happens or what will happen to them.

That being said, the movie is not all bad. It has some good moments, especially in the middle, or second act, where you get that creepy atmosphere that you crave in a horror movie of this style, that is accompanied with a good portion of suspense, tension and an aura of mystery, basically giving you a bunch of people that are just trying to play an escape room game. Think of it like a ''Saw'' movie but without the deadly traps, the twist and turns or the gratuitous violence. Although it does have some disturbing images for a TV horror movie.

Overall, an average, at best, horror movie, that has some sparks of a good horror movie, with a atmosphere that keeps you craving for more but, ultimately, you get more less and the movie falls flat on the ground and trapped forever in a room of discarded low quality horrors, with no escape. Pun intended! 5/10
