The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018) Review

Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews #100%, the place where you can be nerdy about movies and, also, get some fresh and new reviews! Most of the time. The part with the ''new'' and not the ''fresh''.

So, if you are familiar with Stieg Larsson and his ''Millenium'' trilogy books and, also, the movies with Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander plus the David Fincher version with Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig then you you will know what this movie is all about.

I have seen the original trilogy, spoken in the original language and I enjoyed most of it and, also, the american remake of the first one. A bit long but engaging and interesting. Because that movie did not do so well financially Sony decided to not do the rest of the trilogy and opted for a reboot with this one, the adaptation of the novel with the same name, written by David Lagercrantz and starring Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander.

A bit of a synopsis for you lot: Fired from the National Security Agency, Frans Balder recruits hacker Lisbeth Salander to steal FireWall, a computer program that can access codes for nuclear weapons worldwide. The download soon draws attention from an NSA agent who traces the activity to Stockholm. Further problems arise when Russian thugs take Lisbeth's laptop and kidnap a math whiz who can make FireWall work. Now, Lisbeth and an unlikely ally must race against time to save the boy and recover the codes to avert disaster.

The movie acts like a soft-reboot and, also, a sequel to David Fincher movie from 2011, ''The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo''.

OK, so my thoughts about this movie is that it focuses more on the action parts of the movie in order to successfully adapt the intensity of the novel and, make no mistake, they do achieve that but they decided to adopt the style over substance move, loosing the story in the process, leaving the movie less effective and with a lower impact.

Some of the times, the movie is a bit predictable and the main villain, who by the way, is not very hard to pinpoint who it is, was disappointing and predictable, as I have stated before.

Acting wise, Claire Foy is as good as ever in every role that she is in but, unfortunately, she does not have very much to work with here, in terms of script. The movie is not very long, which is a good thing because it should not have been longer than 2 hours for what it is.

Overall, this reboot did not start well and it's a shame because the movie had promise and potential to be, not a great movie but, at least, a good one. 6.5/10

OK guys, that is my review for this one. Coming up next, an animated movie.
