The Space Between Us (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
The Space Between Us (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today I am reviewing a movie that I did not plan on seeing but, being a movie critic, I saw it. And I regretted immediately. Why? Because the movie offers a premise that, is kinda interesting but at the same time not that knew and changed it into a very cliched and very cheesy romance tale. And the movie is boring, not well written. Some of the dialogue is horrendous and down right awful. The movie wants to be emotional and, in some occasions, funny but it fails in both categories. The story is so full of chess and it's pore attempt at comedy feels flat and unfunny. I felt bad for the actors in the leading roles, Asa Butterfield and Britt Robertson. They have chemistry but the script and the execution doesn't do them justice. Their performances are good, as Carla Gugino's and Gary Oldman's too but the movie is bad. I'm glad I did not saw this in theaters. Too bad for the ones who d

Life (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Life (2017) Review OK, this movie does not offer anything new to this genre. And you can see that it borrows heavily from "Alien" and "Gravity". But is enjoyable as hell. Excellently filmed, with great visual and special effects that makes you believe that this movie was shot in space, well acted. It has great atmosphere, thrilling tension and suspense, at times a bit claustrophobic to enhance that feel of dread and horror at the thought that you might be trapped in space with an alien entity. And speaking of, great job on designing the alien. It's not xenomorph but it is terrifying. And good job on not making this 3-D. Because all those spins and camera angles can make you dizzy. Not a very good job on naming the alien. I mean, Calvin is the best they could come up with? A bit of a lack in character development and the music was a bit off in some scenes. In others it feels appropriate so is not all bad. O, and the ending is predictable which, from my part,

2012 (2009) Movie Review

Imagine
2012 (2009) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! This review is long overdue but, since I started this blog, I wanted to review this movie because it has problems. The major one is the length of the movie. It's too long for a movie that has so little substance. Take "San Andreas" for example. A disaster movie that is the exact amount of run time. Although this movie has some excellent visual effects, the moments when it slows down makes it dull and boring. The performance of the actors is OK, although John Cusack is overacting in some occasions. And you cannot notice the religious theme of the movie. From the end of the world and the Great Flood to Noah's Ark and we also have a character named Noah. It's main focus is that the end can also be a beginning of a new life in a new world. It's all about second chances, what we're willing to do for those closest to us and what it really means to be human. This movie would have been much bett

Why Him? (2016) Movie Review

Why Him? (2016) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! I did a upgrade on the blog's main page and I think it's good. More of that coming. My review for today is for a movie that I didn't plan on seeing these days but I said, what the hell? What can I say about this movie is that is very funny and has a excellent cast of A listing actors. The premise is not even close to original because this formula, father vs. fiance, has been used in many movies around the years. That being said, the tired plot is uplifted with nice performances and very good humor. Ad some crazy and funny scenes and you get a sort of a good comedy. Some of the jokes are not that original and a bit forced giving you a sense that the screenwriters ran out of good jokes and they decided to throw anything that was remotely funny. But, when I see a comedy I want that movie to make me laugh and this one did. Very much indeed. Despite the over used plot, the movie is not that bad. It's g

Footloose (2011) Movie Review

Imagine
Footloose (2011) Review You know what they say about remakes right? There are unnecessary and bad. Well, I can agree with one of those adjectives. Yes, "Footloose" didn't need a remake but the energy and style that director Craig Brewer brings to the table makes it a decent remake. I can even say a good one. But I still like the original more. I wasn't even born when the original movie came out but I like that one more because the way it tells the story. The remake does hold similarities with the original but it is not a copy and that is a good thing. It was made clearly to tell the same story but keep in it fresh for the new generation, which I am a part of. It has way more dance scenes than the original and that is my beef with this movie. It concentrates more on the dance moves and styles instead of the story and the situation. I can say that it introduces the characters a little more better than the original and gives more information about how the whole stor

Footloose (1984) Movie Review

Imagine
Footloose (1984) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Been a long time, I know. So, today I'm reviewing the two "Footloose" movies because I saw the other night the 2011 remake and I said that I should revisit the original as well in order to compare the two. And that is exactly what I did. And guess what? I still like the original. Some critics say that the original movie does not have enough dancing and I agree with what they are saying. But that is way the original, in my opinion, trumps over, no pun intended this time, the remake. It concentrates more on the situation and the characters. For me, the last scene of the movie compensates for the lack of dancing throughout the movie. And the music is awesome. Not only the song from Kenny Loggins but the whole soundtrack. The characters and the story could have used a bit more introduction and information but, being a story about free spirit, courage, love and standing up for what you believe in, I can

Kong: Skull Island (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Kong: Skull Island (2017) Review Well, this movie was great. I can say that, in the special effects department, surpasses Peter Jackson's movie but it's no match against the classic. I liked the different approach on the story and the fact that they didn't go with the classical one. A nice change and welcoming. One thing that I wanna see in a monster movie is monsters fighting. And I got just that. In that department I am very satisfied. Performances are great and the visuals combined with the special effects look incredible. And it has that feeling of war movie, close to "Apocalypse Now" kinda vibe. People that have seen "Apocalypse Now" will know what I'm taking about. There are some negative things also. The character development is missing almost entirely. There are some bits of information about the characters but not enough to get a backstory. What they did, who they are? What kind of people they are? We don't get almost no information

King Kong (2005) Movie Review

Imagine
King Kong (2005) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, I saw last night "Kong: Skull Island" and I thought I could give you a bonus review for the Peter Jackson remake of the 1933 classic. First of all, let's get the negative things out of the way. One of the things is that the movie is too long for what it is. I mean, it could have worked as well as a 2- 2 hours 15 movie. Being that long, it has some dull and slow moments that are taking you out of the rhythm and make the movie slightly boring. Another thing is the CGI. You can see that the CGI effects are not that good, mainly in the scene with the dinosaurs. You can see that everything is either fake or just a green screen. 1993's "Jurassic Park" has extraordinary CGI, opening the gate to this type of technology. And it was the beginning of the 90's. Peter Jackson did an excellent job with the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and the special effects in those movies surpass

Godzilla (2014) Movie Review

Imagine
Godzilla (2014) Review This movie wiped clean the trash that was "Godzilla" from 1998 and gave it a new face. Gareth Edwards, like he did with "Monsters". does an excellent job making you wait to see the infamous monster by showing you glimpses throughout the movie before the final showdown. And this can be a little annoying but it pays off in the end. The human drama exist just enough to not become exaggerated and ridiculous. Although the performances, apart from Juliette Binoche and Bryan Cranston, who are criminally underused, are a bit stiff. Mainly Aaron Taylor - Johnson. The action is excellent, mainly the final battle and Godzilla himself is astronomically huge. The movie is great and I cannot wait to see what Kong does in "Kong: Skull Island". And, of course, the battle between Kong and Godzilla. 8.2/10 OK guys, that is all for today. On Sunday, I am going to give you my review of the "Kong: Skull Island" movie. Until then, take

Sing (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Sing (2016) Review Man, this animation is wonderful. Excellent songs, superb voice cast, colorful animation and a story, albeit familiar, that is very appropriate with the title of the movie. Is not as good as other animation movie that came out last year but it is one that can motivate anyone to follow their dreams and believe in themselves. The movie is made for children in order to inspire them but the adults can appreciate the movie and the message that it delivers. A charming, funny and motivational animation. 7.2/10

Gold (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Gold (2017) Review So, when I saw this movie, I didn't know what to expect. I was expecting a combination between "Fool's Gold" and "The Wolf of Wall Street". And I got just that. There were also some hints from "Dallas Buyers Club". And what do all these three movie have in common? Matthew McConaughey stars in all of them. He gives a wonderful performance and the movie is not that bad. It's funny, interesting and kinda strange. But, the story is uneven and the characters are a bit underdeveloped. It's a story about ambition, persistence and the American spirit. Edgar Ramirez does a nice performance as well. The first half of the movie can be a bit boring for some but the second act is kinda entertaining. It's not as good, not remotely, as "The Founder" was, another story about ambition, persistence and the American spirit but it deserves a watch. 6.5/10

Fifty Shades Darker (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Fifty Shades Darker (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews. Like I said, I will watch and review this movie. And I did watch it and, just like the first one, to which I am not doing a review because it's stupid, boring and ridiculous, I hated it. I mean, it has some improvements over the first movie but, in general, it's as bad as it's predecessor. Frankly, the only good things to say about this movie is that you have a bit of tension, if you can call it that, a bit of suspense, of you can call it that, a bit of mystery and it's got more sex scenes than the first. We do find out a bit of Grey's past and the women from that past. So, I guess that is a good thing. Besides all that, the chemistry is still lacking between the two leads, the script and the dialogue is so bad that some of the lines sound very stupid and ridiculous. Some of the situations in the movie are ridiculous and unexplainable that they come off funny other than serious. I c

Logan (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Logan (2017) Review Now we come the the best X-Men movie that was made thus far. It is a mix between a Sci-fi and a western. Be careful, this one is very emotional for a comic book movie and it will tug on your heart strings, especially at the ending. Hugh Jackman gives his best performance in this role and offers an emotional and gritty farewell to Logan. This movie breaks every genre convention and becomes something unique. It is very violent, from the start of the movie till the end. Very well shot, with great cinematography and excellent set pieces. I said, in my review for "The Wolverine", that we got a more vulnerable Logan. I was wrong. This is the most vulnerable and broken Logan that we have seen. Patrick Stewart shines again in the role of Xavier and the little girl, who I thought she's going to be over the top, she was not. She was great and a movie about her character would be awesome. Like I said, the movie is violent, but the violence is contained. It i

Deadpool (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Deadpool (2016) Review Now we get to the really good stuff. This movie has everything that I wanted and expected from this character. It totally makes you forget of the abomination from the "Origins" movie. Even from the opening credits you know that you are about to watch a crazy and funny movie. And I liked how they switch the name of actors, producers, writers and director with simple words. That beginning encapsulates what Deadpool really is. The movie is crazy, fourth wall breaking funny, raunchy, very violent, sexy and definitely not family friendly. With a small budget you can make a very good superhero movie. It only has two action scenes but we did not need more. It compensates with a good origin story, witty dialogue and back and forth between the past and present. Ryan Reynolds was born to play this role. The CGI was very good for a small budget and the action was excellent. The villain was a bit average, nothing special about that. It changed the world of com

The Wolverine (2013) Movie Review

Imagine
The Wolverine (2013) Review Now this is another story. This movie is definitely an improvement from the "Origins" movie. James Mangold knows his Wolverine comics. It stays true to it's material and it can keep fans of the comics and the Wolverine movies entertained with great action and fight pieces. Hugh Jackman embodies the pain and guilt that Wolverine is struggling with. With this movie we get a broken and a more vulnerable Logan, both emotionally and physically that, despite being a good guy, he does not acknowledge, at first, his true self. But a trip to Japan is about to change that. Like I said, we get some excellent action and fight sequences, with the bullet train scene and the Logan vs. The Black Clan. And for that particular scene I recommend you watch the extended version because in the original version that scene is cut short. And, also, the extended version is more violent. So I recommend you see the extended version of this movie. The original is good

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) Movie Review

Imagine
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) Review Hi guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Sorry that I haven't posted anything these days but I am very busy with work and college. So, I saw "Logan" yesterday and I thought I should review the other two Wolverine movies and "Deadpool". So let us begin with the worst of them, the abomination that is "X-Men Origins". To be fair, it has some good things amongst all the bad shit. The beginning of the movie, with that period shot, is a very well done depiction of the violent life and past that Logan had lived till now. And it also shows the similarities between him and Victor Creed, whom is not his brother. And that is the first mistake of the movie. Hugh Jackman's performance is flawless but unfortunately it does not help the movie very much. The CGI is awful, with those stupid claws that look like a cheap video game or a cartoon effect. There just awful. The action is all over the place and not very well s

Hidden Figures (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Hidden Figures (2016) Review Man, this movie shows us the importance of equality and fareness. Heart warming, with great performances, an excellent cast and a great true story with an important subject. It's a crowd pleaser all around. Octavia Spencer was nominated, she does a good job, but, in my opinion, Taraji P. Henson and, especially, Janelle Monae stood out. Kevin Costner is excellent in this type of role. The only thing that bothered me was Jim Parsons. Not his performance but the character. He does not transfer any emotion of any kind, he's just angry and he has only one face expression the whole movie. So that's it. A great movie with a great story. 8.7/10 OK guys, those are the reviews for today. I'm not promising anything for tomorrow but the next review is going to be for "American Pastoral". Have a nice day and keep on reviewing!

Collateral Beauty (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Collateral Beauty (2016) Review OK, so this movie was officially panned and I can understand why. The story is sad, I give it that and the movie is well meaning but how they decided to tell the story was completely wrong. Instead of focusing only on Will Smith's character and his problems, the movie decides to switch from Will Smith to Edward Norton and the Kate Winslet and then Michael Pena. And focused on their problems as well witch made the movie confusing and the story became non linear. And the thing with Death, Time and Love, it looks like it was meant for the friends of Will Smith's character. Michael Pena was dealing with Death, Kate Winslet with Time and Edward Norton with Love. So, confusing as hell. And the ending is so weird that it made the movie more bonkers. Is cheesy and the emotion that it supposed to make you fell it's not there at all. Like I said, the story is sad but the execution made it more hilarious than emotional. Performance are great but no

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! It has been a few days from my last review but I had some other things to take care off and I was a bit depressed and mad with the latest Oscar ceremony. I don't want to get into it so let's move on. So, I think this was the 30th time I've seen this movie but who's counting right? But I can't help it. It's so good. The atmosphere, gloomy, dark and foreboding, the music, the songs, the performances, the directing, camera work. Everything in this movie is excellent. It's not a full on musical, like with the "Les Miserables" movie from 2012 and that is a good thing, to have some break from the music. Tim Burton does a magnificent job in staging this famous musical to the big screen. The cinematography is also beautiful, encapsulating, perfectly, the revenge story and the transformation of Benjamin Barker into Sweeney Todd. Yes, it's a re
