War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) Review

Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today we conclude the rebooted "Planet of the Apes" movies on a very high note. This is the most intense and the most emotional entry in the series. It starts off excellent, like the other two, with a action scene that is impressive. Plus, the opening sentences explained very well the story of the whole trilogy plus they did a nice move with enlarging the words "rise", "dawn" and "war", the very three that describe each of the three movies. There are some links with the original, mainly the little girl, Nova. Which is great. This movie is focused more on the apes than the other two combined. This is their movie, their story. Plus hearing Caesar speaking for the entire movie is awesome. I'm amazed on how well this entire trilogy constructed and developed this character, ending his arc on a very intense and emotional note. Speaking of Caesar, he is struggling to keep his family and the whole pack together, being tormented by dark thoughts and, ultimately, vengeance. In the end, he realised that the pack is important and nothing else. Woody Harrelson's character is a great villain, how little he is in the film but making his presence felt nonetheless. Plus the title of the movie is kinda of a hint to the story because there two groups of people that collides with one another to see who can survive on this planet of apes. And the apes are caught in the middle. And this, from my part, was a brilliant move. And I got the feeling that this one, not like the others, had a social politic theme here, with the apes working for the white people like slaves. Plus the apes are black so you can see what I'm saying here. Excellent action, superb special effects, a great story plus an emotional ending. One thing that bothered me is the inclusion of Bad Ape, motion captured by Steve Zahn. He did a great job but the character is kinda 50/50 for me. On one hand, is good to have some humor thru all this chaos but on the other hand, it kinda feels out of place and a bit annoying. Kinda of the fence with this one. Overall, the whole trilogy impressed the hell out of me. It has to be one of the best trilogies and one my favorite trilogies ever. Starting off with a bang and ended with a boom. A big blockbuster BOOM! You really need to see this! Another thing that bothered me was the script. A bit flimsy, a bit lazy but apart from that, all good. 8.8/10
