On The Road (2012) Movie Review

On The Road (2012) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today I'm talking about another serious movie with Kristen Stewart. This one, unfortunately, is taking itself too serious. I mean, the movie is pretty to look at but the overall execution is to crafty, to detailed. And the movie is over 2 hours long and it could get a bit boring. The performances are good, some nice cameos from acclaimed actors but the pacing is so slow that you want the movie just to end. And you will have to wait for that. Stewart's role is more developed in the second half of the movie and she did a decent job. Not much else to say. A rather not good/not bad movie. One good thing is that you can see the whole book the Sam Riley's character is writing throughout the movie, from his interactions with different places and people, mainly Garrett Hedlund's character. That's all I have to say. See it, don't see it, it's entirely your choice. 5.5/10 OK guys, that is

Camp X-Ray (2014) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! We continue today with the serious movies with Kristen Stewart. I can tell you that this one is the slowest of them all, in terms of pace. The story that is presented is interesting but the execution is a bit shallow. It's a war movie but different from the rest. The war is not outside. It's inside. The war is in the interactions between the characters, mainly Kristen Stewart's and Peyman Moaddi's characters. And also, the war from inside of ourselves. Speaking of, great performances from these two actors and Kristen Stewart man! With each movie, she demonstrates range and excellent acting abilities. The movie suffers from it's slow pace and, sometimes, it kinda gets a bit boring. But watching the interactions between the two leads and seeing the transformation of their relationship makes it worth wile. 7.1/10 OK guys, this is my review for today. Tomorrow we continue with "On the R

Clouds of Sils Maria (2015) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today we continue the reviews for serious movies starting Kristen Stewart. So this movie is made by the same director that made "Personal Shopper" which I already reviewed. And I can tell you, I liked more than "Personal Shopper". Director Olivier Assayas has a trademark apparently. He uses the fade to black technique. He used it in "Personal Shopper" and in this one, also. This technique is good for tv shows but not for movies. Each time the screen cuts to black I'm feeling that a particular scene could have continued for a couple of seconds. It kinda cuts you from the story, so to speak. The pacing is still slow but the story keeps you interested. The performances are exquisite and are given by a trio of very talented actresses. Although you don't see the particular play, just a bit at the end, you see it through the movie, thru the interactions between Juliette

Personal Shopper (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! These following days I will review a couple of more serious movies starting Kristen Stewart and we begin with this one. When I saw the trailer for this movie I was impressed by the plot and I said that this is a ghost story but a bit unconventional and personal. Now that I've seen the movie I am a bit on the side. I still liked it, the story begins well and it's interesting. But it's for a very short time. Then the movie continues the story thru a different tone and keeps you invested in the story. There is a bit of underdevelopment and some parts of the story are left unexplained until the end. Kristen Stewart's performance is riveting and exceptional. She absolved herself completely for the "Twilight" movies. The bad thing about this movie is the slow pace. The movie is like an hour and forty minutes but it feels like hours before it ends. The fade to black is completely annoyi

Get Out (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today I'm going to talk about this amazing and thought- provoking movie. Any of you remember that old movie from the 60's, "Guess who's coming to diner"? The people who were and lived thru the 60's definitely know this one. Because I don't. I'm a millennial so it's very ahead of my time but I know the main story of that movie from seeing different modern iterations of that particular subject. So, imagine that movie with a weird and sick twist from the mind of comedian Jordan Peele. The main plot is the same but the rest of it is purely and utter madness. It begins normally, like a soft romantic comedy but then, with all those twists and turns, it transforms into a thrill ride with horror and comedic elements. The most part of the movie you don't even know what the hell is going on, until the final act and you try to guess and you ask yourself tons of questions. And that is

Rings (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Rings (2017) Review To little to late for this one, I'm afraid. Why does this movie exist!? I mean, it's bad. It's even worse that "The Ring Two", if you think that's possible. If you are a true fan of this franchise it does have a couple of well made thrills but, for me, not being a fan of this film series didn't work. The movie rehashes plot points from previous movies, it does not offer anything new to the genre, it's full of cheap jump scares and cliches. Plus, the story is kinda confusing at times. Like I said, there are some scary bits and some suspense but it's nothing that I haven't seen before. The first movie had better CGI than this and IT'S 2017! It's not scary, apart from a couple of scenes and it does not offer a closure. Plus, the final act the movie transforms into "Don't Breathe", which is a good movie. Only an ending, which I kinda liked, that sets out a sequel which, I'm hoping, it doesn't g

The Ring Two (2005) Movie Review

Imagine
The Ring Two (2005) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today we are talking about the last (hopefully) "Ring" movies. Let's start with the second one. All that was good about the first movie is erased in this generic, full of cliches horror movie. The mystery, the investigation, the atmosphere, the haunting visuals are gone and replaced with jump scares, horror movie cliches, bad visual effects and stiff acting. Hideo Nakata, the director of the original Japanese movies cannot save this particular piece. It has a dull screenplay, a slow pace that makes you wanna skip towards the end and the scenes that are "scary", they're not frightening at all. The movie is not scary. I don't understand how you get from a smart and chilling mystery to an absurd fest of bad CGI and a week story. I guess the director wanted this movie to be closer to the style and horror of the original. If that is the case, he didn't succeed. Although Naomi Wa

The Ring (2002) Movie Review

Imagine
The Ring (2002) Review Let us go back to the past, when horror movies were more than just cheap jump scares, gore, buckets of blood and cliches. This movie is not you're average horror movie. It is more than a horror movie. It's a mystery thriller with horror elements in it. An investigation tale, if you will. The style, the gloomy atmosphere and the dark tone of the movie makes it stand above other horror movies. Boasted by an excellent performance from Naomi Watts, with creepy visuals and Gore Verbinski's somber style of filming, "The Ring" gives you a chilling movie experience. It's got it's share of plot holes and there are some slow moments that can be boring but, in the end, the movie gives you a terrifying premise. Re watch the scene towards the end and you'll know what I'm talking about. Too bad that the sequel wasn't as good as this. But more on that tomorrow. 7.9/10 OK guys, those are the reviews for today. Imagine
Fast and Furious 8/ The Fate of the Furious (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today we will be talking about the first entry in the new "Fast and Furious" trilogy. And, also, the 8th movie of the series. What can I say? This movie was awesome. Full of everything that fans of this franchise enjoy watching. With every movie they take it to a whole new level but in this one I think they broke the barrier of crazy and over the top action and stunt sequences. I mean, it's the most entertaining movie of the franchise thus far. The budget for this movie was 230 million dollars, so is the most expensive movie in the series. And man, did they make that money count? Hell yeah, they did! There is a scene in the movie that contains zombie cars. Yeah, zombie cars! That whole scene reminded me of "World War Z" but, instead of zombies, you have zombie cars. The story is a bit flimsy, a bit like a soap opera filled with betrays, kidnapping and a l

Furious 7 (2015) Movie Review

Imagine
Furious 7 (2015) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! The review for today is the 7th entry in the "Fast and Furious" franchise and it's the most emotional and deep of all the movies in the series. James Wan, who gave us the "Insidious" and "The Conjuring" movies, blends excellently the superb action and over the top stunts with dramatic and emotional pieces. Everyone knows that this movie has suffered with the loss of Paul Walker but manages to overcome that by being a tribute to Paul Walker and gave him a wonderful send off. I liked those little details and hints that led to the last scene of the movie, which, by the way, is the most heart wrenching scene in this whole franchise. Another thing that I appreciated is the way they managed to film some scenes that Paul Walker did not finish. And most of the time, his character, is not that present in the picture or he's filmed from the back or from the side. Those are the scenes

Fast and Furious 6/ Furious 6 (2013) Movie Review

Imagine
Fast and Furious 6/ Furious 6 (2013) Review These movies just keep getting better and better. The sixth continues the high octane action and great humor that made the previous one a success, both critical and commercial. Of course, the level of crazy stunts and action sequences gets leveled up but so does the story and arc of some characters. This movie deepens the code of family that Dom is going by and it made the bond between him and Brian more stronger. The story remains simple but with higher stakes. And there is a difference between Dom's team and this new one that they encounter. Like I said, the word family is stronger in this movie and you can see that with Dom's team, they care about each other and help one another. Shaw's team is just the opposite. They only care about getting the job done, whoever dies along the way. One arc that I liked is Hobs. You can see the change in his heart, growing more fond and towards Dom's way of life. He is becoming, with e

Fast Five (2011) Movie Review

Imagine
Fast Five (2011) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today we kick start the reviews with the fifth movie in the "Fast and Furious" franchise. This movie opened up a hole new level and brought new life into this franchise. I'm not saying that the other movies are terrible but this one elevated the quality of these films. They chose to leave the racing stuff in the back and concentrate more on the characters and story, which they did and basically made a heist movie. The story, how simple it may be, is more engaging and has more depth than the other stories in the previous movies. The action is elevated to a hole new level of awesomeness and craziness that you don't even think about the story. Yes, the action scenes may be mind numbing but, if there entertaining and with good quality, however crazy and unbelievable there are, I'm soled. We have a new team, with old and new characters and these characters work so well with one another so, besid

Fast and Furious (2009) Movie Review

Imagine
Fast and Furious (2009) Review So this movie is basically a retelling of the first movie, with some considerable changers but, at the core of it, the story is kinda the same. It has great action and awesome stunts but the story is kinda familiar and less competent plus the characters are not that compelling. The tagline of the movie is "New model, Original parts". The parts are original but the model is not that new. Is great to see the old cast and some new faces but putting them in the same movie the second time is not that good. Plus, besides the racing and chase scenes which are excellent, the pacing is slow. The movie clocks are one hour and forty six minutes but it felt like hours. They wanted to restart the franchise, I think but they ended up making a copy of the first movie. And, furthermore, this movie is a prequel. They didn't quite cranked this up, pun intended. 6/10 OK guys, those are the reviews for today. Tomorrow we change gear with the fifth and

Imagine
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Fortunately, I will be able to post the reviews for the remaining "Fast and Furious" movies this week. So, we continue with the third installment of the franchise, that it considered the worst in the series. But, seeing it again last night changed my mind a little bit. The movie is bad but not as bad you think. If you are a fan of the franchise, like I am, and you like cars you will appreciate this movie for what it is. And what it is, is not so much. The story is limp and the acting is below average. Lucas Black does not look like a high school student. He was 24 at that time. Some of you will say that Andrew Garfield was almost 30 when he played Peter Parker in the "The Amazing Spider-Man" but at least he kinda looked like a high school student. And the dialogue is atrocious. Along with the script. And the biggest problem is that the action in this movie takes pl

2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) Movie Review

Imagine
2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) Review So this is where things started to slow down for the franchise. Quality like. And no Vin Diesel. Of course, the movie has nice cars and the actors look excellent and they have some few good action sequences but the whole plot of the movie is just stupid. It looks good but it won't make you think not for one minute. Paul Walker does his best to keep up and replacing Vin Diesel as one of the main characters. Is not as full of racing scenes like the first one and that made the movie a bit boring and dull. Not much else to say about this movie but, at least, is not as bad as the third one. More on that, hopefully this week. 5/10 OK guys, those are the reviews for today. I am going to try to post the other ones this remaining week but no promises. I may leave town for a few days. Time will tell. Till then take care and keep on reviewing!

The Fast and The Furious (2001) Movie Review

Imagine
The Fast and The Furious (2001) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! A little late with the reviews for the "Fast and Furious" franchise and I'm not even sure about the others but I'm going to post them nonetheless. Let's start with the first one, which was all speed and not much else. Story wise. It looks good, judging by the period of time that this movie came out, it offers very good race and action scenes, characters are loosely developed, more or less and the actors did a good job. What this movie does is bringing back the old school era of teenage exploitation movies. The movie also boroughs the main plot from "Point Break", a classic of the 90's. You can see the connections. Not much story and not as good as the later movies of the franchise are but it had a good start and it cemented Vin Diesel as a star. 6.2/10

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017) Movie Poster and Trailer Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Yes, I know I will not review any movie till next week but this is not a movie review. Star Wars Celebration is continuing and I could not resist on talking about the new poster and trailer for "The Last Jedi". Let's start with the poster first. It looks awesome, I think is the best one yet and it's got that oldie feel and vibe to it. Like the original posters for the original trilogy. And it says the whole story in that poster. You have Luke, Kylo and Rey who's holding a lightsaber that begins blue and continues with red. And shows you the conflict that Rey is going to go thru. Should she stay in the light or follow the dark path? Excellent poster. Now the trailer. I did not expect on being this good. It does not show you much but it shows enough to keep you excited for December. I didn't need to see more. For me it was enough. And t

Sieranevada (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Sieranevada (2016) Review Another excellent and well filmed Romanian movie. Very different than the other, this movie reminded me of the play and the movie "Carnage". A bunch of people, in an apartment, staying and talking to each other. Simple and superb. It's run time is very long, it's almost three hours but in those three hours you don't get bored not even for a minute. Every second we spent with these characters gives us another piece of information about there character and the story that is unfolding. Of course, when you have a dozen people in a rather small apartment, it tends to get a bit conflictual. Even outside of the apartment we get a couple of arguments. Thru these arguments you can see how people would react in a very stressful situation or even an environment. A weird thing about this whole movie is that no one is sitting at the table. There are so many conflicts and happenings that nobody remembers that they have to sit and eat. Of course, w

Caini (Dogs) (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Caini (Dogs) (2016) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today I am going to review two new Romanian movies starting with this director's debut of "Dogs". First of all, when you watch this movie, you don't feel lie you're watching a Romanian film but a Coen Brothers movie. It reminded me of "Fargo" and "No Country for Old Men". It's a very gripping modern western with elements of thriller and crime movie. A superb shot and filmed revenge story that, although it does not offer anything new and you don't know the whole story not even at the end, makes you curious and invested in the story. The word and the title of the movie has a double meaning in this scenario. Although the canine element is present and I'm going to open a bracket here (How many dogs do you see in this movie? Just pay attention and you will see the subtle style of Bogdan Mirica's directing.), the other sense of the word is more important in

Power Rangers (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Power Rangers (2017) Review Now we get to the remake. What I liked about this new movie is that they took away the campy look and gave it a more darker tone. It shifted into turbo, pun intended. The movie looks great. They did a very good job in making this movie, with the zords, the suites and the Megazord, all of the special and visual effects look incredible. Yes, once again, the script is childish, the story is familiar, it's an origin story that we have seen before and it takes a while until it shifts into another gear but the message that it transmits makes all of this worthwhile. It's a message about working as one, as a team. The power lies in many, not just in one. It's a message for all generations. It teaches us to be more selfless, to help one another, to care about each other and to help each other when the going gets rough. Awesome! And the message is better received when you have fresh faces in your movie. All of the cast performed excellent, Elizabeth B

Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997) Movie Review

Imagine
Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997) Review So, some people say that this movie is even worse than the first one. But I say different. Although the first movie, however bad it was, it had some entertainment qualities but this one, I believe, was better made. The special effects look improved from the first one, the story makes a little more sense, however simple it may be and is more entertaining than the first one. It feels more like an adventure movie, similar to Indiana Jones. The final act resembles the one from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom". Is like watching an hour and a half episode of the "Power Rangers Turbo" series. Is very truthful to the source material and I respect that. Again, the script may be childish, but it's a kids movie. I liked it more than the first one and, being a Power Rangers fan, that says a lot. And I liked how they brought back Kimberly and Jason. 5.9/10

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) Movie Review

Imagine
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today is Power Rangers day, like I told you. Before I review the remake, I will talk about the old Power Rangers movies. So, if you feel nostalgic, this is the place to be. So, like many, I am a Power Rangers fan but I'm not going to sugar coat this. The movie is bad to look at. Is cheesy, like the TV Show of course, the effects are awful, like very awful, the story is unoriginal and the villain's plot to destroy the world is stupid. The Rangers themselves look a little bland and the biggest problem is, they don't appear very much in their costumes. If you thought "Batman and Robin" was full of awful puns and one liners, wait till you check this movie out. And all those "swoosh" sounds are terrible. Sound like old martial arts movies. And the rangers have gizmos that don't appear in the original TV Show. Of course, the script is childish and dumb

The Bye Bye Man (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
The Bye Bye Man (2017) Review So, like I said, this movie is far worse than "Sleepless" was. It's called a horror movie but I did not see the horror. Or anything scary, for that matter. Like "Sleepless", this movie also uses a familiar plot and relies on cliches and cheap jump scares. But you can take the "scares" word out of the context. The movie starts off good, especially the seance scene, but then it falls into the cliche pit. It borrows elements from other horror movies, good horror movies, and tries to construct an original story. It fails in doing so and becomes another horror movie that is just there. No originality, nothing remotely scary, it's boring and you should not watch this movie except if you want to waste an hour and a half out of your life. It's not worth it, trust me! Doug Jones did a very good job and he looked menacing. But he was so brief in the movie that it does not save this particular specimen. 3/10 OK guys,

Sleepless (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Sleepless (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today I'm reviewing two movies that are using the same tired plot in their particular genres. For example, this one is yet another crime drama with dirty cops, bad men, kidnapping, the bad guys take the child of the officer/agent and that particular officer/agent goes on a rampage to get him/her back. The movie is predictable, with many of this genres cliches, the plot is familiar as fuck, from the movie "Ransom" with Mel Gibson all the way to the "Taken" franchise. I mean, give me something original. It's a shame, because the movie has a talented cast, which is wasted, and some very good material to work with. Putting these two elements together, you can make an awesome crime movie but instead we are watching the same old thing. It has more cliches and predictable outcomes than thrills. The action is kinda good though. But that's it. See it, don't see it, is entirely up to yo

RoboCop (2014) Movie Review

Imagine
RoboCop (2014) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Another remake for today and it's a remake I did not want to see it get made. But that's Hollywood. So, I am a fan of the original movie and a remake for that movie sounded OK at first. But I got to see the final project and I was conflicted. Is it better than the original? Of course not. Not even close. Is it a bad movie? Actually, it could have been worse. It's way better than I expected. The main story is the same, with some changes. I didn't have problems with the new costume being all black. It looked cool and bad ass. Also we get an update of the original suite, which was fine. Joel Kinnaman, was no Peter Weller, but he did well in the famous role. Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton did nice performances. The major problem with this movie is the toned down violence and action. The original was rated R and, among other things, was the ingredient for success. This one was made PG-13 and that is the ma

Monster Trucks (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Monster Trucks (2017) Review OK, so this movie I wasn't planning on reviewing it but a friend of mine told me to review this movie. And see it. I only did that to get him off my back. So, I can say that this movie is a weirder version of "Free Willy" but instead of a whale we get Creech, a tentacled creature that drinks motor oil and acts as an engine to a truck. From that, I can tell that there is some inspiration in this story but, other than that, it's not something new. The special effects are, to some extent, good. Creech looks as you expect bit it looks kinda quite. It's another movie with a story of friendship between a human and an animal. And it's kinda fun. 5.5/10 OK guys, those are the reviews for today. Tomorrow I have a "RoboCop" remake review. So, till then, take care and keep on reviewing!

Unbreakable (2000) Movie Review

Imagine
Unbreakable (2000) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, I just saw once more the movie "Split" (review is already posted) and I said to revisit another movie for M. Night that was fairly good. The movie was not as good as "The Sixth Sense" was and it did not have a twist ending as good as the other had. Or even "Split" for that matter. But make no mistake, the movie is good. It is the most grounded to reality comic book movie ever put to screen. The way that M. Night tells the story, with all those different twists and turns along the way, makes it feel so real and authentic. Bruce Willis's performance enhances the story alongside Samuel L. Jackson, who makes for a great character. I said that the twist ending is not as good as "The Sixth Sense" was but is does not disappoint. It's suspenseful, intriguing and engaging. 7.5/10

Ghost in the Shell (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Ghost in the Shell (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, like I said, today I'm reviewing the remake of the original anime (the review for that is already posted). First of all, the movie looks excellent. The special and visual effects department did an awesome job. Director Rupert Sanders keeps it faithful to the source material and you can see the similarities between them. Another note on the visual effects, they make the movie look like the original anime. Of course, you can the similarities with other movies, mainly "Blade Runner" with the visual style, "The Matrix" with the action sequences, although I talked about the original anime being an inspiration to the Wachowski's in creating Matrix and "RoboCop" with the all cyborg story. An excellent performance from Scar Jo, proven once again that she is an action hero or heroine. The negative parts about this movie is that the story is kinda familiar and sometimes i

Imagine
Ghost in the Shell (1996) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, I just saw 5 movie this past weekend and I'm going to review them one per day. So today I'm reviewing the original anime that the "Ghost in the Shell" remake is based on. A review on that remake will be up tomorrow. Not being a fan of the manga series I just saw this anime because of the remake. And I was impressed with this. It can satisfy the fans of the manga and, also, the new comers into this world. The movie impresses with excellent animation, powerful and engaging themes plus excellent action sequences. The title of the movie refers on the ghost or spirit of a human that is contained into an artificial shell, transforming that human into a cyborg. And I can bet that this anime was an direct influence to the Wachowski brothers/sisters for "The Matrix". Because you can see the similarities between "The Matrix" and this. It's themes are very though provo
