Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017) Movie Review

Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, in 2011 and 2013 Sony Pictures decided to launch two Smurf movies that blended CGI with live-action and I saw both of them. I strongly recommend not to see those two movies because there are so bad that it is torture to watch them. So, with this animated movie, this time around, I thought Sony had figured it out a way to make a good Smurfs movie but unfortunately this is not the case. Yes, I like that they decided to go full animation here, although it doesn't look that good but it's targeted audience are very young children. The humor is for children, the jokes are for children, with the occasional and so ever present fart and but joke and the whole concept of the movie is for children and no one else. With someone like me, not a kid but young, this movie does not work. It did not impressed me in any way. Plus, I thought it borrowed elements from "Minions" and "Trolls&q

The Bad Batch (2017) Movie Review

The Bad Batch (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, this movie was not on my radar to watch this week but I figured, why not give it a try? The movie is not good. It's not bad either, it has it's moments but the whole plot is confusing. The script is poorly written, the story almost makes no sense, it's very slow paced and it is almost two hours. Way to much length for what this movie is. Imagine this movie like a Mad Max type of stuff and striped it of all the action and thrills. It certainly has the feel of a Mad Max movie, with the environment and the characters but it's nothing like that. The movie showed promise, with it's good cast and weird story but the end result falls flat. The characters are not engaging but the actors did a good job. And you are not sure in which genre you can fit this movie. Plus, I don't understand why Jim Carrey, who is clearly in the movie, is not credited. Overall, a promising movie but a disappoin

Colossal (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today, I will tell you a story, a review rather, of a strange movie that is "Colossal". This one surprised me in a good way with its strangeness and brilliance. It has originality with the story, it's funny, smart, weird and emotional, in some parts. I admit, it has elements of other monster movies like "Godzilla", "Cloverfield" and "Pacific Rim" but it's a monster movie with a different and ingenious approach. Some of the viewers will find the weirdness of the story to be a bit confusing and distracting but that is the thing that makes this movie work. It's brilliant in it's weirdness. Plus, the performance of Anne Hathaway is a must see and it elevates the quality of the movie even higher. It's just a treat to watch her unfold on the screen. And her character arc is excellent. To see how her character starts off at the beginning and how she changes tow

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) Movie Review

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, I just saw the fifth installment in the Transformers franchise and I can say that I'm disappointed. And this is the first Transformers movie in this series that managed to do this. The movie is exactly what you'd expect from a Michael Bay Transformers piece. Excellent and superb special effects, great action, great sound design, mostly good humor and a nice soundtrack. On the other hand, this has to be the slowest and boring movie of this series. It has action sequences but there are so far apart that everything that is in the middle feels like it's dragging the story. And the run time, which, is again, exaggerated, feels longer than it actually is. The movie is 2h30 min. but it felt like double that. The story makes no sense, some of the plot elements are nonsensical and illogical. The humor works, most of the time. I know that some didn't like the humor but I didn't

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) Movie Review

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today we are talking about the fourth installment in the Michael Bay blockbuster franchise. There is a line in this movie from the main villain and it talks about the human intelligence and he asks that "is there is such a thing?". Judging by this movie, I'm not sure that it is, mainly in the making of this movie. It's a mess of a movie. The script is awful, the dialogue is awful, some of the lines are so stupid and nonsensical, the run time is the highest of the series, bloated out of proportions. Most of the humor does not work, it's very americanized and full of product placement. The story sucks, the romance between two new characters is very weird and inappropriate. Plus the action is the most exaggerated and non believable of the series, how awesome and entertaining it may be. Connections with the third movie are stretched very thin, non of the human characters f

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) Review

Imagine
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today, it's the third outing of Michael Bay's Transformers. I noticed a pattern with this movies. The first one was OK, undeniably the best in the series, the second one was almost crap, which means not good and now, the third one is an improvement over the second one. Yes, the running time is, once again, bloated and exaggerated and the script is floozy and thin but there are some good things with this movie. The story is a bit tighter, apart from some big plot holes, the battles are shot more expertly, a big word for this movie and the feeling of shaky cam is almost gone. It has some emotional depth to it, the humor has improved as well, with Sam' parents appearing in only 2 scenes, which is good and the inclusion of Alan Tudyk really helped the comedy. We have some new characters, that don't have any exposition or a backstory whatsoever. The replacing of Megan Fox with Ros

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, today we are taking about the second movie in the Michael Bay series of Transformers. I forgot to mention, in my other review, that these movies are excessively long, so this one is just as long as the first. There is not much to say about these movie because there all the same. About this one you can say that everything is amplified times 1000 than the first one. Extreme and awesome action, with some unbelievable and exaggerated explosions, bad and racist humor, bad script, an awful and full of holes plot, where nothing makes sense and there is no logic whatsoever, extreme product placement and too much slow motion, shaky cam that makes it harder to distinguish anything in the fight scenes, awful dialog and new characters that don't bring anything to the table. Like I said, many things in this movie are illogical and don't make sense but it overcompensates with the crazy ma

Transformers (2007) Movie Review

Transformers (2007) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! We begin today the Michael Bay era with the first "Transformers". Let me tell you something, I know that these movies are slammed by critics all the time and even by the public. But for me, these movies are a guilty pleasure. I can turn my brain off for almost 2 and a half hours and just enjoy the mayhem and chaos. But, make no mistake, I will review the shit out of these movies. The main problem, and this is in all of the movies from this series, is the human element of the movie. That is the main focus and it should not be. The humans should be in the back round, helping the autobots. But I think it's exactly the opposite. And of course, no one can deny that the action and special effects are incredible. Confusing but incredible. That is the style of Michael Bay: more action and less story. Although the action is great, the story is weak but, in this one, I think it has the more logic than in

The Transformers: The Movie (1986) Movie Review

The Transformers: The Movie (1986) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! With the new "Transformers" movie coming out this week, I went back, all the way in the 80's to see and review this first feature film of the "Transformers" cartoon. It's just a stupid animation. Well, it's not stupid but it is definitely surprising. Why is that? Well, because it's very emotional, dark and gritty for a kids animation. The action is surprisingly intense, also and I'm not sure that this is a bad thing or a good thing. For me is great and I think the "Transformers" fans would also appreciated. But it's a bit excessive. The colors are nice and the animation is pretty good for an 80's cartoon. The soundtrack is awesome, mainly the theme song. I'm not quite a fan of the sound effects. It's sounded cheap and annoying. The main focus is the war between the Transformers and the Decepticons with the humans being a side cha

Panic Room (2002) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Well, this review was not planned but I wanted to see this movie for a long time now. And last night was the perfect occasion. And I wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere, the tension, the suspense is thrilling. And the movie is even better with the directorial talent of David Fincher and elevated by Jodie Foster's performance. And we are introduced to Kristen Stewart, who gives a good performance. We have some comedic moments as well, mainly from Jared Leto's character and his interaction with the other two. And I don't know if it was just me but I think there is a contrast between the panic room and the rest of the house. The whole movie, the house is mainly dark or is poorly illuminated. But when the female characters enter the panic room, the light in there is brighter, suggesting a higher sense of security and hope for the mother and the daughter. And I liked the dynamic between Forest Witake

The Belko Experiment (2017) Movie Review

The Belko Experiment (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Have you wondered what will happen if you combine the violence from "Battle Royale" and the office style from "Office Space"? What would the end result be? Well, we got an answer and it's this movie. Everyone who saw those two movies will immediately figured it out that this one is a combination of those two. The violence is there, but it takes it's time before it begins and the feeling on an office movie is there. A lot of gore as well. Unfortunately, the movie lacks the intelligence to make you engaged in the carnage that begins after 30-40 minutes. And it's an hour and 25 movie. The action is good, the entire cast is great, the gore and blood splatter is nicely done and it's a fun and thrilling experience. But, like I said, it lacks the smarts and originality to be a good movie. It's entertaining but that's about it. 6.2/10 OK guys, that is my review

Office Space (1999) Movie Review

Imagine
Office Space (1999) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today, we go back to a time when comedy movies were made with intelligence, wit, originality and good humor. Those four adjectives you can find in this movie. Director Mike Judge expertly puts together a smart script, witty one-liners and a sharp and excellent dialogue. The humor is in the movie, although you don't laugh a lot but that's why is good because it's not thrown in your face with stupid dick jokes, sexual innuendos and awkward dialogue. The humor is found in the situation that the characters are into. And, if I'm mistaken, I think this movie inspired the first "Horrible Bosses", because the two plots are kinda similar. With notable differences, of course. It has the perfect length for what it is, it's sharp and it's a comedy that is good and of quality. 8.5/10 OK guys, that is my review for today. Next up, it's "The Belko Experiment". Until then,

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) Movie Review

Imagine
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, this third entry in the "Mummy" series, like it's villain, should have stayed buried. There are so many wrong things about this movie that I don't know if I remember all of them. First of all, the whole mythology from the previous movies is gone and the location as well is changed. Other thing is that they replaced Rachel Weisz with Maria Bello but leaving the same character. Just like Nolan did with "The Dark Knight and the character of Katie Holmes. I mean you don't do that and expect that the character remains the same because every actor has a different style in his/hers performance. Plus the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello is, almost, nonexistent. The script is dull, the plot is complex and unoriginal. It relies heavily on CGI that it becomes over- saturated. Again, it borrows from "Indiana Jones", mainly from "Temple

The Mummy Returns (2001) Movie Review

Imagine
The Mummy Returns (2001) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Today, the mummy is returning and, unfortunately, he's kinda out of shape. Let me get into this and tell you more. The sequel is beneath the original because, most of the time, it's the same goddamn thing, with minor differences. There are so many scenes that reminds you of the first one, that you would think why do they bothered with making this in the first place. The plot is thick and too convoluted, the script almost makes no sense, the CGI is mostly bad and so obvious, with some few exceptions and it borrows heavily from the "Indiana Jones" franchise, like the first one did. There is nothing new in this movie, nothing fresh. It's the same stupid story, with the same characters that make the same stupid decisions to awake the same stupid mummy and, finally, to an end that is, basically, the same. It's less scary and less enjoyable. And, sometimes, it doesn't even acknowl

The Mummy (1999) Movie Review

Imagine
The Mummy (1999) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, because there is a new "Mummy" movie coming out this week, I've decided to revisit the Brendan Fraser trilogy that involves a mummy and things that don't really make sense. We kick things off with the first one, a movie that it is forgettable but it's so much fun to watch. There are mostly negatives like the movie is not historically accurate, some of the things in this movie don't make sense or have any logic, it's not that scary and the story is predictable and unoriginal. Another aspect of this movie is the CGI, which sometimes works and other times doesn't. It's funny, it has some genuine humor and most of the time it plays well into the story. What makes the movie good is that you kinda don't care that it's not historically accurate or anything else. You just wanna have a good time and the movie delivers on that. It has some good action, characters that make

T2 Trainspotting/ Trainspotting 2 (2017) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Like I said, today is the sequel to "Trainspotting". You know how they say that a sequel cannot top the original, with very few examples, and most of all, a sequel that is too little too late will not work, with a recent example, "Zoolander 2". Well, this is not the case. Yes, between the first one and this there is a 20 years gap but that's one of the reasons why this movie works, especially with a time gap that long. The movie does not top the original but it came close. It introduces to us, once again, these characters and what they've been up to in all that time that passed. It ads a new story, with some pieces from the first movie, making it close to how the first one was. A few scenes are reminiscent of other scenes from the first movie, which kinda worked and it kinda didn't. Just let the movie stand on it's own and not rely on the original. It&#

Trainspotting (1996) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Because tonight I will see the sequel to this movie and the review will be up, maybe tomorrow, I thought I should revisit the first one just to give you my thoughts about it. And, mainly, becomes I loved it the first and now, that I've watched it the second time, I enjoyed it even more. This movie shows you the horror of drug addiction and how it affects, not only your own life, but the others around you as well. It does it in such a manner that comes out funny, gritty, often times terrifying and, all of the times, visceral and real. The movie focuses only on a small group from Edinburgh but it works very well as an attention, I don't wanna say warning, to all of those people who are using and developed a drug infused addiction. It reminded me a bit of "A Clockwork Orange". Of course, these two movies are different but the main plot of these two movies are kinda similar. This one is not for

Wonder Woman (2017) Movie Review

Imagine
Wonder Woman (2017) Review Now this is what I'm talking about. DC and Warner Broth. had done it, finally. This is how a superhero origin story should look like. They did one hell of a job with this movie, man. First of all, the movie is, mainly, addressed to women, not only because of the lead female character and female director but also, the implications and situations that the female lead character confronts in this movie. The action is amazing, the battle from "no man's land" and from the village plus the final battle and the end of the movie. Spectacular visual effects, great and good quality humor, finally in a DCEU movie, great performances, mainly Gal Gadot and Chris Pine plus the chemistry between them is very good, very believable. And Gal Gadot, man. She didn't quite impressed me in the "Fast and Furious" franchise, plus her movies from last year was below average but in this one, she is excellent. Not only for the dramatic scenes but, mo

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) Movie Review

Imagine
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! So, when this movie was announced I was very excited. Two of the most influential and iconic american superheroes battling each other. Sound like an awesome movie, right? Well, the end result was not that awesome. Particularly, I liked the introduction of the movie and how well it ties in with "Man of Steel". It's the battle between Superman and Zod and we see everything from Bruce Wayne's perspective, kinda giving us an inside eye from that event, which was great. What supposed to be a great story, however, is drenched in a tide of CGI and chaotic action. Make no mistake, the action is great, mainly the long awaited and short battle between the main two characters plus the end battle against Doomsday, which was not a surprise because that element was gone thanks to the movie's third trailer. Another negative is the performances, mainly Jesse Eisenberg's portray

Man of Steel (2013) Movie Review

Imagine
Man of Steel (2013) Review Hello guys and welcome back to Movie Reviews! Plus, HAPPY INTERNATIONAL CHILD'S DAY! On this special occasion, I prepared a treat of a review, with the first movie from the extended DC universe. First of all, I am a huge fan of Christopher Reeve's "Superman". And the second. Even a little bit of the third. I hated the 4th one and "Superman Returns" was kinda of a letdown. With this one, I can say that I have feelings about it. The movie is not bad, we get the origin story of Superman slightly changed. The main story is still there but with some differences. Being a Zack Snyder film, we all know that he's more of a more action and visuals less story director. And we all know that his movies look incredible. There is no denying that this movie has an excellent visual style and impressive action sequences, although the fight at the end of the movie is extremely similar with the fight at the end of "Matrix Revolutions&quo
