Suicide Squad (2016) Review

Finally I got to see Suicide Squad. I'm just kidding but I did see the extended version and I'm going to give my thoughts on both of them. So the original one is half bad half decent because, it is funnier than the other DCEU entries, has a talented cast but it starts off slow, then the plot begins to muddle and we finally get to an epic showdown that is a bit anticlimactic. The characters are poorly introduced, there is almost no backstory to any of them and the writing is a bit cheesy. Director David Ayer does a job that is only half good but there are some good things as well. One of them is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, a role that fits perfect to her and she embodies the full madness and chaos of the character. Jared Leto did a decent job with the Joker, giving us a version that is more truth to the comics. This version is like a mob king/prince of darkness type Joker and he sets apart from Jack Nicholson's more comedian approach and Heath Ledger's chaotic description of the character. We have some good action, some fine special effects and notable appearances by Batman/Bruce Wayne/Ben Affleck and The Flash/Barry Allen/Ezra Miller. Plus Viola Davis who gives a remarcable performance as Amanda Waller. And Will Smith is great as always. Now the extended version did not help the movie at all. Not like the BvS Ultimate Edition which filled out some of the plotholes of the original and that is why I like Batman V Superman more than Suicide Squad. DC, I hope Wonder Woman and Justice League movies to be the starting point in a universe that could be great. 6.9/10
